| My
tapestries are narrative and often explore the ideas of presence/absence
and multiple meanings. Each piece with its evocative title, often a play on
words, adds to an ongoing story. Images are created from personal travel
photography, childhood memories of places visited and of the people who were
or might
have been there, shadows and reflections. Recently the work has shifted from
photo-realism to a large format abstract, 4 harness tapestry.
The combination
of the artists various interests has allowed her to sketch
using maps, vintage textiles, script and drawing in a post
card scaled collage. The weaving materials now include wool, raffia, eyelash yarns,
finely cut fabric strips and hem
tape. The storyline has broadened to include the client's personal history
for commissions. |
