Intricacy

My work is about the interaction of colors and geometry. The work is handwoven with hand dyed wool; this media is chosen because of the rich textures possible, and to draw the focus to the colors, and how they relate to each other on a pure basis.

As I start a new work, the process begins in the dye pot. Hand dying of the wool yarn, for each new piece, is essential to create a specific palette that is not limited by commercially available colors. The geometries come from many sources noticed in studies or travel: a garden wall in Oaxaca, kimonos in Japan or ceramic tiles in Turkey.
