PRESSURE AND FORM

My work uses the technique of pleating as an expressive metaphor for reflecting a world that often seems pressured, random and experimental. Our personal landscapes must continually change in response to these fluid conditions. Pleating is used to manipulate or create pattern, to study the edges and boundaries of form, and to investigate the way pressure influences structure.

I strengthen these concepts by utilizing precious or unstable materials, such as vintage silks, limited edition Japanese fabric, or ordinary household waxpaper. Indigo dye is often used as a universal symbol since it is employed by nearly all cultures.
