My mother taught me how to sew when I was a young girl.  Growing up a middle child and the only girl in a house with four sports playing brothers, I found sewing to be one activity I could call my own.  My engagement and connection with sewing and cloth created a broad yet personal exploration of self-expression.

My work integrates weaving, sewing, embroidery, felt making, paper making, printing and dyeing into sculptural forms that persist in making reference to the body in all of its physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual connotations.  The sculptural forms I create take on the quality of skins or hides and containers or vessels.  The materials I use, linen, wool, used cloth and clothing, paper and beeswax create multiple and complex layers.  These materials help me to articulate my ideas about containment, loss, memory and association.

The history of textiles is impressive and expressive.  Working within this field has allowed me the opportunity to engage in a rich aesthetic tradition while exploring concepts that are both unique and appealing to me and universal to a wider audience.
