I
find balance
in my life with
work as a field
biologist, textile
conservator
and studio artist.
I am continually
intrigued by
the endless
possibilities
of expression
that working
with fiber and
fabric afford.
My garments,
wall pieces
and sculpture
feature layers
of surface embellishment
incorporating
various techniques
of dying, painting,
quilting, beading,
appliqué and
embroidery.
The beadwork
conservation
and restoration
business has
exposed me to
a variety of
antique ethnic
textiles from
around the world.
I
am drawn
to the symbolic
and mythic
imagery
that permeates
so many of
these pieces.
I strive
in my art
to create
works that
have layers
of meaning
and mystery
and hopefully
an essence
of the magic
I feel in
the presence
of these old
textiles.
